Memory foam is a visco-elastic foam that is temperature sensitive and has the ability to conform to the shape of your body but also has the ability to rebound back to its original shape once the pressure and weight is removed. There are certain grades of memory foam that are based on the nature of the visco-elasticity and by it's durablility.
The grade we will be talking about in this article is Weight.
Foam Matress Topper
The Weight is measured by the density in pounds per square foot. The weight in a foam is directly correlated to the amount of chemicals that are added to the foam in it's pure polyurethane form. The more chemicals that are added to the foam the higher the density and the more it will become visco-elastic.
The density above does not describe how hard the material is though. The hardness of the material is measured by the ILD rating (Indentation Load Deflection).
Most of the memory foam mattresses you come across will use a density of four and five pounds (but some have been known to use a three and two pound density).
So when you go to your local mattress store or your favorite online retailer make sure you check for the weight rating. There are other grades to memory foam that you should be aware of but they are far to descriptive to be detailed here. Your best bet for finding the best memory foam mattress is to pay close attention to the warranty and the company selling it. They will be great indicators of whether or not the mattress is quality.
